〜ヒューマン・フェノタイプ・プロジェクトの日本コホート研究を展開〜
明治ホールディングス株式会社（代表取締役社長CEO：川村 和夫・以下、明治HD）、ならびにイスラエルに拠点を置くAIスタートアップPheno.AI社（CEO：Ori Cohen, PhD）は、グローバルコホート研究を指向するヒューマン・フェノタイプ・プロジェクト（Human Phenotype Project・以下、HPP）の一環として、日本におけるコホート研究（以下、HPP Japanコホート）を実施することで合意しました。
HPPは、イスラエルのワイツマン科学研究所のエラン・シーガル（Eran Segal）教授が同国内で立ち上げた研究プロジェクトで、同プロジェクトの事業化に伴いPheno.AI社に運営権利が移行されました。HPPは、ヒトの健康情報を継続的に蓄積してゆく縦断型コホート研究です。最先端のAI駆動型データ分析技術を用いて蓄積された情報を解析することにより、健康寿命の延伸や疾患予測、疾患の早期発見、個別化医療の発展などに応用可能なデータ蓄積・活用プラットフォームの構築を可能にします。高齢化社会において、単に病気を治療するための方法を見いだすのではなく、病気の予防や根本原因を解明し、人々がより健康に生活を送るための今までにない新しい健康課題の解決方法を創出することが期待されます。
今回合意したHPP Japanコホートは日本の健康データ分析を対象としており、HPPのグローバル展開の第一歩となります。データ取得はSBS静岡健康増進センターで実施し、最終的には数千人規模のデータを最長25年にわたり同一参加者から継続して取得し続けることを目標としています。日本を対象としたHPP Japanコホート研究のデータがHPPデータベースに加わることで、人種や食文化などの異なる集団における健康情報の比較や共通する項目の抽出が可能となり、AIモデルがより精緻化され、データプラットフォームの汎用性を向上させることを目指しています。
HPPはイスラエル、日本以外の国への展開も計画しており、将来的にはこれらの国のデータも活用可能となる予定です。この合意により、明治HDはHPPのグローバルデータおよびHPP Japanコホート研究データへのアクセスが可能となります。
これらにより、明治HDの社会実装に向けた研究・技術開発力とPheno.AI社のデータプラットフォームやAI駆動型データ分析技術との相乗効果で、健康課題解決につながる質の高い知見・情報を得られることが期待されます。また、明治HDはこの活動を通じ、食と健康のプロフェッショナルとして、世界の人々の健康課題の解決に資するソリューション開発・新規事業開発に取り組んでいきます。
明治HDならびにPheno.AI社は、日本を含めたグローバルコホート研究プロジェクトの展開を拡張していくことで、同プロジェクトの価値向上を図り、世界の人々の健康課題の解決へ貢献してまいります。

・コホート研究とは
疫学におけるコホート研究は、共通の特性を持つ集団を追跡して、その集団からどのような疾病が発生し、また健康状態が変化したかなどを観察して、各種要因との関連を明らかにしようとする研究です。

Meiji Holdings and Pheno.AI Agree to Conduct Cohort Study
Launching Japan Cohort Study for the Human Phenotype Project
Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (CEO, President and Representative Director: Kazuo Kawamura; hereinafter “Meiji HD”) and Pheno.AI (Head office: Israel, CEO: Ori Cohen, PhD) are pleased to announce an agreement to conduct a cohort study in Japan (hereinafter, “HPP Japan Cohort”) as part of the Human Phenotype Project (hereinafter, “HPP”), which aims to conduct a global cohort study.
The HPP was initially launched as a domestic research project in Israel by Professor Eran Segal of the Weizmann Institute of Science. As the project transitioned to commercialization, Pheno.AI assumed operational leadership. The HPP is a longitudinal cohort study that continuously collects and analyzes comprehensive human health data. By leveraging advanced AI-driven data-analytics technology, the HPP will enable the construction of platforms for data accumulation and utilization, aimed at extending healthy lifespans and predicting disease, as well as supporting early disease discovery and the development of individualized healthcare. In an aging society, the HPP holds the potential to provide solutions that go beyond traditional treatment approaches for illness, such as disease prevention, root cause analysis of diseases. It is also expected to lead to the development of unprecedented and innovative methods to resolve health challenges and support people’s healthier lives.
The HPP Japan Cohort, to be established through this agreement, targets health data collection and analysis in Japan and represents the first step towards the global expansion of the HPP. Data acquisition for the HPP will be conducted by the SBS Shizuoka Health Promotion Center, with the ultimate goal of enrolling a couple of thousand participants and tracking longitudinal health data over a period of 25 years. Integrating the HPP Japan Cohort data to the HPP database is expected to yield significant benefits, including enabling cross-cohort health data comparison across different populations and dietary cultures, identifying common health indicators, refining AI models, and enhancing the versatility of data-driven health platforms.
The HPP is actively expanding beyond Israel and Japan, with plans to integrate the two countrie’s data and those to be collected from additional countries. Under this agreement, Meiji HD will gain access to both the global HPP database and the HPP Japan cohort data.
This endeavor is expected to generate high-quality insights that will contribute to resolving global health issues by combining Meiji HD’s research and technology development capabilities for social applications with Pheno.AI’s data platform and
AI-driven data analysis technology. As food and health professionals, Meiji HD will also incorporate these activities into its initiatives towards developing solutions and new businesses that contribute to resolving health issues around the world.
Meiji HD and Pheno.AI are committed to expanding the global cohort study project in Japan and worldwide to increase the value of this project and contribute to resolving the health challenges that people face around the world.
